Winter Show 2011

Starting from 1st Dec and running into the new year until Jan 30th 2012, I will have some of my watercolor artwork on show at Independence Hall in Fairfield, CT. The reception night for the Winter Group show will be held on Thursday December 8th so hope to see you there.

Solo Show Extends...

Delighted to report my solo show has been well received in ‘The Gallery Upstairs’ in Fairfield. The show has now been extended until the end of July –so there are two more weeks remaining to view the work! One new piece also joins the rest of the works (pictured below) – a watercolor painting of ‘Ogden House’, the beautiful historic 18 Century Connecticut Farmhouse located in Fairfield.

Solo Show Success...

Enjoyed a wonderful art opening reception for my current solo show this Friday just gone, entitled ‘In All Fairfieldness’ – a collection of Watercolors from my home town of Fairfield.

Thanks all to the guests who came along to support and enjoy my work. Special thanks goes to the Gallery Owner, Curator, Cherril Kolesik and my wonderful wife for making things run smoothly.

The work will be displayed until June 24^th at the Gallery Upstairs, 1506 Post Road, Fairfield, CT. The gallery will be open during regular business hours Mon- Sat.

"In All Fairfieldness" Solo Show

Next month I will be presenting a solo show in my hometown of Fairfield , CT– entitled ‘In All Fairfieldness’.

The show will be held at the Gallery Upstairs, 1506 Post Road, Fairfield, CT with the opening reception on Friday May 6th from 5 - 7pm. The collection of Fairfield scenes will be showing from May 2nd until June 24th 2011.

New Year & Works

The annual ASL show on 57th street in Manhattan will display two of my latest paintings from my State side series. Below is a townscape of Monroe, Wisconsin which I was just finishing a week or so ago, making it in time for this show which starts todays and will run through to next Saturday. The opening reception will be held this Wednesday evening (26th Jan) from about 6 pm onwards in the Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery on the second floor of ASL bulding.

Finally - finishing this month will be the Winter Exhibit at Independence Hall at 725 Old Post Road in Fairfield CT. Last chance to see these works will be on January 31st. Happy 2011.

January Show Schedule...

First show of the New Year will be held at CRG Gallery @ 548 W 22^nd St, New York – the annual benefit sale for Visual AIDS. The sneak peak preview party is from 6 – 8 pm on Friday Jan 7 2011 and cost is $85 admission. The sale continues on Saturday Jan 8^th from 10- 6 pm and Sunday January 9^th, 2011 from 12 – 4 with a $5 suggested admission.

Also second show scheduled in New York in the same month will be held at the Art Students League throughout the last week of January. Will post further details shortly, once plans for the reception evening are solidified.

Winter Exhibit

Next art show will be at Independence Hall, 725 Old Post Road, Fairfield, CT on the 1st and 2nd Floors. This a group show sponsored by the Fairfield County Arts Association and will run for two months starting Dec 1 2010 and ending January 31, 2011. It is open to the public during regular weekday business hours. The reception however, will be held on Wed Dec 8th between 7 - 9 pm.

Greetings from Alaska

No recent updates for a while as I’ve been spending a fair chunk of the summer months either at the canvas or travelling. The most recent trip covered Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Washington and eventually Alaska with plenty of new landscape sketch ideas and photo’s to work from which are now taking form back in my studio.

In Montana – visiting family and got to spend a little time getting the guided tour of their wonderful ranch which is nestled in a scenic valley just outside Bozeman, below.

My sketchbook filled up quickly around the NW region and on reaching Alaska, it was time to buy another one.

Below is a postcard watercolor 'sketch' I completed of the dynamic Glacier National Bay. Here you can watch huge receding glaciers periodically carve off icy masses into the frigid water in this wondefully inspirational environment.

New Works & Show

Here’s a couple of fresh new paintings I have been working on recently. ‘Buffalo Picnic’ just completed, captures a scene that I had encountered last year while out in the Badlands of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. A herd of buffalo had over run the picnic table area near the entranceway of the park. Here in my oil painting however, I just honed my subject to feature the buffalo laying down and a younger buffalo nearby.

Work in progress below, is this scene from Red Rocks Amphitheater, nr Denver, Colorado. This oil painting I'm working from a photo which I had captured on my camera before the concert started.

Finally, the next show which will feature my work in Manhattan will be held from May 10th through to May 14th at the Phyllis Harriman Gallery at 215 West 57th Street. The gallery opening reception night is scheduled to be Thursday May 13th from 6.30pm onwards.

Postcards from the Edge

This year's postcard's from the Edge Exhibit will be held at Zieher Smith at 516 West 20th Street (between 10th and 11th Avenues) in Manhattan. One of my donated postcard artworks will feature in the event. The preview party will be held Friday Jan 8th ($75 admission) and the benefit sale will continue over the weekend, i.e the 9th and 10th. Hope to see you there on the 8th...

New Frontiers

No updates from last month since I was out on the road for the most of it - somewhere in the middle of America...

On this journey, I began at the frontier lands around Colorado area, then took in the mid west of the USA upwards and acrossways to cover the great plains, including the Dakota’s and finally over to Minneapolis.

I managed to complete plenty of new sketches and photo’s during this trip, with lots of new ideas to create back in the studio. As is customary on such trips, I took the chance to visit local galleries and museums. The Denver museum of Art was particular impressive with a great collection of work displaying western american art.

For the month of August, the summer themed exhibit 'Hot Hot Hot' continues over at Evers' Place Gallery in Long Beach. The show will continue until the end of this month.

Here's one of my paintings that features in the exhibit and was inspired from my travels while driving through Nevada's, Valley of Fire State Park.

The most recent show featuring my artwork kicked off last weekend at Evers Place Gallery, Long Beach, NY. The themed exhibit entitled ‘Hot, Hot, Hot’ opened last Saturday night and the exhibition will continue until the end of August.

Here’s a photo from the last opening night at the same gallery, for the blues festival show which featured in June. You may be able to pick out my artwork on the right hand wall which is a painting of Reynolds Channel in Long Island.

The Bluez Tones

Commencing this Friday on Jun 26th I will be participating in the 'Blues' themed art show occuring across the city of Long Beach. The 'blues' themed show is a joint show with collections displayed from Long Beach Art League, Artists in Partnership and WEA.

One of my blue's themed works will be exhibited at Evers Place Gallery at 949 West Beech Street with the gallery opening being this Friday Wed Jun 24th between 6-9pm. A cheese and wine reception will be held this Friday to commence the event, so hope to see you there!
The show will continue through to July 10 (gallery closed on Wednesday)

Almost opposite Evers Place gallery on Beech St, I have some more oil and watercolors paintings in the display window of Beach West Realty who are kindly showing my artwork throughout the busy summer months (thank you Megan!)...

On the show side of things, after a successful gallery opening earlier this month, the exhibit at the Jackson Hotel @ 405 East Broadway, Long Beach continues through to the 20th of May.

Manhattan Mutts

The next art show that features my work is scheduled to go up tomorrow at the Jackson Hotel, 405 East Broadway, Long Beach. The display arranged by West End Arts will be up for public viewing until May 20th and will feature a couple of my paintings. The reception will be held April 5th between 3-6 pm.

Meanwhile in the studio, I’ve just finished a recent painting from my ‘commuter life’ series called ‘The Dogwalker’. This guy I often see on my way to work, walking a pack of Manhattan mutts that are assorted shapes and sizes.

Coming next month (hopefully) will be the launch of my new website (version 2.0) which is currently being crafted. Link to follow…

Upscale Fish Market

My recent oil painting of Pike’s Place Fish Market, Seattle, is now finished and will be freshly displayed in the Art Students League of New York, class Concours show all this week. The reception night is this Friday and the work will feature alongside two other of my larger oil paintings which are on display until Saturday morning. The event is in the Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery on the second floor of the Art Students League building at 215 West 57th Street, Manhattan.

Some great turn outs for the recent January shows last month despite the freezing weather. The Postcards From The Edge exhibit was very well attended in Manhattan with a wine opening reception held on 9th Jan . Happy Good Year !

A new year and a new show - two of my paintings will be form part of the West End Arts Show that commences this weekend on the 2nd floor of the Long Beach Public Library.

Also this month, I have artwork in the Postcards from the Edge exhibition which is being held at Metro Pictures gallery at 519 West 24th St in Manhattan. The preview party will be held 6-8pm on Friday 9th Jan with admission costing $75 which includes one raffle ticket. The event continues on Saturday with a suggested admission of $5, however, make sure you get there early Saturday morning to guarantee being at the front of the line!

My current painting that I'm developing is a scene form my recent trip from Seattle...

An oil painting of Pike’s Place Market which I visited back in November. I'm finally satisfied with the values of the painting, so am now working on the finer details of the signs and clock - hopefully to have this completed as my first painting of 2009.

This month has been a busy time in the gallery space – on Dec 6^th the below piece I painted of the Long Beach life guard chair was donated and sold in the ‘Picture Clean Oceans’ benefit sale for the Long Beach High School Surf Club – helping support the great conservation efforts of our local beaches.

I also participated in my third ‘The Colors of Long Beach’ event, which was held at the Long Beach Community Center on Dec 13^th. As per prior years - I performed several water color demonstrations to the public and displayed some of my current and previous work.

Meanwhile, Evers Place Gallery is now exhibiting some new works from my collection in the ‘All That Glitters’ exhibition which begun on December 7^th.

Overall a busy month which somewhat reflects a busy and successful year of exhibiting my artwork with the completion of over 10 shows in the Manhattan / New York state area, plus my first ever successful solo show completed back in July.

The next event will be in Manhattan at the Metro Pictures Gallery for the 11th Annual Postcards From the Edge benefit sale, where I have one of my postcard sized artworks in amongst 1,500 others! The gallery is located on 519 West 24th Street in Chelsea, for more details click here.

Foregone in Oregon

No updates from last month as I was on my travels through the scenic states of Washington and Oregon. This means two new landscape paintings which will come to form part of my 'across the states' series - inspired from some of my ideas, sketches and photo's that I collated on the West coast trip.

Washington was spent mostly taking in the sights, sounds and smells of the wonderful city of Seattle - from the flying fish atmosphere of the famous Pike Place Market to admiring the views on the top of the Space Needle.

Oregon itself, involved a scenic tour down the jagged coastline before veering back inland into the city of Portland. One of the most beautiful stops along the way was Canon Beach, where I painted the below postcard watercolor. Along the scenic highway, miles of pounding coastline can be seen against the backdrop of Haystack rock.

On the gallery news - still showing are three of my paintings at the 'Sun, Sand and Sensuality' exhibit down at Evers Place gallery which continues until Dec 5th. There are some impressive pieces on show with a wide range of styles and mediums -worth checking out if you haven't already done so.

A Splashing Good Time

At the end of last month, I held my gallery reception at the Coffee Nut for my first solo show. Thanks to all those of you who came came down to enjoy my exhibit and also the complimentary coffee.

In August I will exhibiting in a group art show with West End Arts under the theme of ‘Splash’. The opening reception will be Saturday August 9th at the Long Beach library gallery on the 2nd Floor between 2 - 4 pm . Artwork will be hanging in the gallery until Aug 26th.

Take the first step..or two

Two new 'first steps' taken this month.

1st up, My first ever artist blog to keep both collectors and the curious updated on my exhibitions, events and future new pieces that are coming along….So Welcome!

2nd up, this month of July 2008 witnesses my first ever solo show at the wonderful Coffee Nut Café in Long Beach, NY. Here you can sip the best coffee in town and enjoy the changing artwork unfold. Many thanks to fellow local artist Nick Meola for arranging this.

The first day on the exhibition begun well with a sale and many pleasing comments. The show’s set list encompasses my artwork from 'Across the States', 'This Commuter Life' and various local scenes of Long Beach. The Coffee shop itself is situated at 250 E Park Avenue, Long Beach and the show runs throughout the whole of July - Enjoy!

And Finally - Other shows (group exhibits) where my artwork is currently featuring – includes Credit Suisse, One Madison Avenue, Manhattan and also the WEA group exhibit entitled ‘Freedom’, at the Long Beach Community Center.
